Practice Information
As a psychologist, I invite curiosity, mindful awareness, compassion, and some humour. Everyone encounters challenges and experiences setbacks at times, and I truly believe in the power of therapy to help people change. My aim is to help clients bring possibilities into reality, feel empowered, and have more understanding of themselves and others. I have more than 20 years of experience working with couples, families, youth and adults on a variety of emotional and psychological concerns. These include relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and body image, as well as career and workplace concerns.
My therapy style is warm, empathetic, and client-centered, which means, that I believe you the client is the expert in finding your answers and coming to resolutions. What I offer you is a non-judgmental, safe and empowering space to explore and your emotions and memories that might be presenting as blocks in your life. In therapy, I will follow your moment-by-moment experience and be with you as you go to places in your mind that you may be afraid to trek alone. I will give you my undivided attention, hear you and try to understand your individual life experiences, while facilitating your efforts in regaining balance with your self.
The lasting impact of traumatic situations can be complex, life-altering and scary. At times, clients find themselves trapped in stillness, moving through life as if shrouded in a dense, unyielding fog. I use a personalized approach rooted in several different validated treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing EMDR, dialectical-behaviour therapy (DBT), internal family systems parts work (IFS), emotion-focused therapy (EFT) and Gottman couples counselling techniques to support my clients. I also welcome and integrate traditional healing and creative strategies that is determined collaboratively with you, the client.
Through culturally informed counselling, we address generational and racial trauma, and empower you to meet your emotional, mental and spiritual goals. Using a holistic lens, we will work together to improve any presenting emotional imbalances that have created barriers for you to show up as your full self in your daily life.
Adults:
I work with adults who are navigating the effects of childhood trauma, interpersonal trauma, relationship wounds, high stress, parenting and burnout. I also support first responders, healthcare workers, and professionals carrying the emotional weight of demanding roles. Together, we will create a personalized plan to help you manage emotions, set healthier boundaries, build resilience, and feel more in control of your life.
Couples:
Few things in life are as exhausting as a dysfunctional or toxic relationship. Many couples suffer for a long time believing there is no help available, or that they have already tried everything. Whether your relationship has been impacted by betrayal, a critical incident, ongoing conflict, or years of built-up resentment, repair is possible. It is possible to resolve conflict, re-attune, and rebuild trust, and rediscover intimacy and closeness. You don't have to navigate this alone. Well researched assessments and tools are available to repair your relationship. 90% of couples report improvement in their relationship after engaging in therapy (AAMFT, 2022).
I have extensive experience supporting couples through some of the hardest chapters of their relationship. Using evidence-based, attachment-focused care, I help couples rebuild emotional safety, restore trust and sexual intimacy, improve communication, and reconnect with one another. With the right support, it is possible to resolve conflict, re-attune, rebuild trust, and rediscover closeness and intimacy.
Children and Teens
I also support children and teens who are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, relationship difficulties, problematic technology use, identity development, and career concerns. With younger clients, I may use traditional talk therapy along with creative approaches such as sand tray, play-based therapy, and art-based interventions.
My approach is also guided by an intersectional framework. I use an anti-oppressive, culturally competent, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming lens in my work as a therapist, consultant, educator, and supervisor. I understand that culture, family expectations, migration, race, identity, community, and generational trauma can shape the way people experience distress and healing.
For many people in BIPOC and immigrant communities, seeking counselling can come with hesitation, fear, or uncertainty. I offer a respectful space where you can ask questions, explore what counselling may look like, and decide what feels right for you.
In addition to my clinical work, I teach critical thinking, counselling, and psychology courses at local universities. I am also a consultant and an Approved Clinical Supervisor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I provide culturally informed supervision to both new and experienced therapists.
My goal is to help you feel stronger, more balanced, and more connected to yourself. In our work together, I offer a safe, warm and supportive environment where you can explore the root causes of your distress without any judgement, develop strategies that fit your lifestyle, and support you in moving forward with greater clarity, confidence, and inner peace. In our sessions, you have the freedom to express yourself, explore your identity and work through challenges together!
Reaching out for support is a courageous step. If you are ready to begin your healing journey, I would be honoured to walk alongside you
