I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a combined 25 years of education and experience in the helping professions. I completed a doctorate in Counselling Psychology (Ph.D. from the University of Calgary) and two master’s degrees (Ed.M. from Harvard University; M.A. from the University of British Columbia). I have extensive experience working with people who have diverse concerns, including anxiety, depression, grief/loss, and life transitions. In addition, a large focus of my practice is on two areas: 1) helping people overcome trauma/PTSD in individual and group therapy and 2) improving relationships through couples and family therapy.
My education, coupled with my diverse experience, have helped me develop an integrative, strength-based, relational, and non-judgemental approach. I draw on a number of psychological theories including cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy, emotion-focused therapy, family systems, and trauma-informed approaches. I integrate research-based interventions and tailor therapy to meet your unique needs.
I have a special interest in working with military veterans, first responders, and public safety personnel. I am on the clinical team of Wounded Warriors Canada and facilitate two groups through them: Couples Overcoming PTSD Everyday (COPE), and the Trauma Resiliency Program (TRP). I am also a clinician with the Veterans Transition Network and facilitate the Veterans Transition Program (VTP). I received a silver-seal endorsement from the BC Professional Firefighters Association (BCPFFA) as a culturally-competent clinician and am on the First Responder Health directory.
I strive to create a strong working relationship by: 1) creating a welcoming environment where you feel comfortable exploring your concerns; 2) working together to set and achieve personal goals; and 3) being friendly, compassionate, and having a good sense of humour.
