I work with adults and couples who are struggling with grief, trauma, relationship challenges, ADHD symptoms, life transitions, and those who are generally feeling overwhelmed with life. I often meet with people who are struggling to make positive lifestyle changes in their life and/or feel like “something is missing”. In addition, I work with specific populations such as health care providers and first responders, providing support for challenges such as burnout and PTSD symptoms from work-based trauma.
I’m recognized by my clients as having a calming presence, and being someone who is compassionate and non-judgmental. I believe that we all do the best we can with what we’ve got in the moment, and know that sometimes our lives look very different than what we’d like them to. Change happens whether we feel ready for it or not and life can present us with even more difficulties regardless of how overwhelmed we already feel.
Using strategies and techniques from over 10 years of post-graduate work and professional development, I provide a balance between exploring and understanding your struggles within the broader context of your life, and helping you identify concrete strategies/action items to move you closer to where you want to be in life.
My work with couples comes from an emotionally focused and response-based perspective. I’ll help you identify your communication pitfalls and problematic patterns so that you can learn how to reconnect in an open, honest, and respectful manner. I can help you gain clarity on why you do what you do in challenging situations and, by gaining awareness of the underlying concerns, help you make adaptive changes.
I am passionate about the work I do, helping people to heal and live their best life. As such, I am committed to my professional development and have training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Somatic Attachment-based therapy, and Response-based practice. In general, I work from a collaborative, client-centred approach and my ultimate goal is to help you understand and act on your inner truth.
I know what a challenge it can be to reach out for help. To see and experience one’s life as overwhelming or perhaps desperately underwhelming can be scary, and many of us experience a sense of shame when even thinking of reaching out. Asking for help takes bravery. My approach to counselling helps my clients connect with their inner strength and sense of knowing, empowering them to make the changes they want to see, and to find inner peace within their experiences.
Finding a counsellor who’s a good fit for your needs and personality is important. I'd be happy to have a chat and answer any questions you may have, so feel free to reach out for a free 15 minute consultation.
