Hello! I’m Max, I’m a counsellor with a generalist focus who works from an existential lens. Your mental health is important to me, and I want for us to work together to help you experience relief from what’s bothering you and clarity about your life. The way I work is by first teaching coping strategies to help you regulate in the present, then to explore the deeper emotional and existential basis for what brings you to counselling in the first place.
The basis of my practice is in existential therapy, which aims to look at how big concerns like purpose in life contribute to your day-to-day mental health. I also use approaches from Jungian therapy and Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS) to help explore deep personal themes in your life. I also utilize approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Trauma is a topic which is gaining increased importance in counselling, and many people who decide to seek out counselling have some experience with trauma. My aim is to work from a trauma informed lens, meaning that when we decide to address your trauma, we do so in a way which is supportive and work together to not trigger you in session. I have been trained in a technique called Brainspotting, which is designed specifically to help process trauma.
My own mental health journey is an ongoing process. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was a teenager, and have been in therapy for years myself. I have personal experience with mental health concerns like depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. I know first-hand how devastating these things can be, but I also know that recovery and getting to a better place is possible.
