I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#3637) and work in Downtown Vancouver with teens, adults and families. I help them to uncover their strengths develop tools, skills and perspectives to be present in the moment. We can also work to heal the past so you can live in the present with meaning and purpose. I work with people from varying cultures, gender identities, sexual orientations and family makeups.
Clients I support reach out because of low mood, limiting self-worth, nagging anxiety, conflict in relationships, and lack of meaning and purpose. They may blame themselves, feel resentful, feel angry, or just feel numb. Many are also coping with impacts of difficulties in childhood that are now impacting their relationships as adults and as parents. People feel disconnected from themselves, their families and their culture.
Common issues of concerns I work with include:
Trauma, substance use occupational stress, anxiety & depression, transitions in parenting and relationships among others.
I have 15 years of experience working as a Counsellor in the Mental Health and Substance Use field. I provide Counselling to those with a loved one with an addiction, trauma or serious mental health concerns. Partner, parent, sibling, colleague, friend or child, there is a web of people affected when these problems show up in our relationships.
I also know the first-hand impacts how occupational stressors can lead to time off the job. My hope is to support you in building your resiliency to continue to do the work you want, or help you find a new path for your future.
You will find that I am compassionate, non-judgemental, and skilled at supporting you to find your own way. I believe change is possible and I think all people are doing the best they can.
My therapeutic approach starts with building a relationship with you and collaborating with you on what it is you need and what you’ve already tried to solve these problems living in your life. I work from a strengths-based, integrated approach that is grounded in developing a deep understanding about your experiences and worldview. I draw from approaches such as: acceptance and commitment therapy Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Theory, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness and Trauma-informed approaches such as EMDR.
I will support you to:
- solve problems that are solvable
- learn skills that will help you unhook from painful emotions, thoughts and behaviours
- take action towards you having a rich and meaningful life
- to learn how heal to have the past in the past
I have my Masters in Counselling from the University of British Columbia. I am a member of EMDR Canada and have been endorsed by the BC Professional Fire Fighters Association at the Bronze Level for First Responder Training.
