Practice Information
Hi, I’m Katelyn (she/her).
I work primarily with individuals and teens (15+) navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, or relationship struggles. If you can’t seem to feel safe in relationships, feel anxious all the time, or struggle to bear the grief of a loss, my therapy approach might be helpful for you. What it looks like in practice is settling the nervous system with the support of presence, attunement, and co-regulation. We feel what is underneath the symptoms without trying to manage it.
I base my approach on evidence-based, trauma-informed, and emotion-centered practice. My therapeutic orientation is Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), incorporating concepts from mindfulness-based, body-based, and internal parts work (IFS) theories. Within us exists a whole host of feelings, sensations, and wisdom. Sometimes our inability to feel our feelings means our bodies have to scream in order to get some attention. As a result, we may find ourselves feeling disconnected and experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression. Much of our work together will be about slowing down to notice and experience emotions in a new and corrective way. I also believe that understanding the context in which harm has occurred (familial, cultural, societal, etc.) is a necessary step towards true healing and transformation.
We may be a good fit if you:
-are unable to access, manage or understand your emotions
-are open to exploring some things from your past in a safe and contained way
-feel stuck in patterns or cycles that aren’t serving you or the relationships in your life
-feel disconnected from your sense of self and desire more meaning and authenticity
As someone who has struggled with overwhelming emotions and anxiety in the past, I know that change happens when we are in the presence of an empathetic and emotionally present other. I care a lot about making you feel comfortable, safe, and connected with me as we work together. I prioritize showing up authentically so you can feel free to do the same.
I hold a degree in Master of Counselling from City University in Vancouver, and I am in good standing as Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have specialized training in trauma, grief and AEDP therapy.
It takes an enormous amount of courage to ask for help and trust me with your story. It’s so important for you to feel safe with a therapist, which is why I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. We can spend a bit of time getting to know each other and discuss what you’re looking for in therapy. I look forward to getting to know you and hearing your story!
