Practice Information

Hi, I'm Keri Barron

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, I provide evidence-based counselling for individuals and families affected by eating disorders.  I practice from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive lens, and I am aligned with Health at Every Size.  This work was shaped by both professional experience and lived experience, and by a belief that understanding, support and clear guidance are essential in the recovery process.

For individuals struggling with an eating disorder, or for caregivers and parents facing the daily challenge of how to support a loved one, the experience can feel confusing and overwhelming.  Many families arrive feeling unsure about what is happening or how to help.  My role is to help individuals and families better understand the eating disorder and to offer support that is grounded in both research and real-life experiences.

Who I Work With

I work with individuals and families experiencing anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder(ARFID), other specified feeding or eating disorders (OSFED), and binge-eating disorder.  Support is available for adolescents, transitional age youth, adults and for parents and caregivers who are navigating how to support a loved one through recovery.

How I Help

Eating disorders are serious, potentially deadly illnesses that often occur during adolescence and early adulthood and can linger for years into adulthood if not treated.  They often place a significant strain on individuals, families and friends. My approach to care is collaborative and often involves working alongside physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, schools and other supports to ensure treatment is coordinated and safe.

I offer Family Based Treatment for Adolescents (FBT), Family Based Treatment for Transitional Age Youth (FBT-TAY), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E) and Emotion Focussed Family Therapy (EFFT).

Beginning the Process

Taking the first step can feel overwhelming, especially when there are many unknowns.  It begins with a discovery call where I can talk through your concerns, discuss what you are noticing and explore whether this approach feels like the right fit.

A Little Bit More About Me

I have over 30 years of experience working in mental health, including many years supporting individuals and families who have experienced trauma.  Earlier in my career, I specialized in sexual trauma counselling and have worked with children, teens, adults and seniors in a variety of settings.

Outside of work, I love spending time outside gardening, fishing and camping. Earlier in my life, I ran an Outdoor Gym for moms and kids and volunteered coaching soccer and basketball.   I am a wife and mother to three young adults and share my home with two cats.
