Practice information:
My approach to the counselling process is that not one approach fits all. Although my background and experience is rooted in attachment-based theory and cognitive behavioral approaches used within a mindfulness lens; I believe that the counselling process works best when we use an approach that suits you and/or your family. Through a client-centered, nonjudgmental presence of a therapeutic relationship- we can achieve your goals together. Other approaches that I bring into my practice are:
- working within a lens of social justice
- being trauma informed
- understanding the role and impact of a stressed nervous system
I believe that us humans are typically doing the best that we can. But when we find more useful coping strategies, learn a bit about what has brought us to where we are, and change some outlooks about ourselves and our lives- we can feel better. One of my passions is to be a part of this inward and outward journey with individuals, couples, and families- as they learn more about their past and present selves and situations- and come to a place of increased joy and harmony in their lives.
We all have the potential to live meaningful and purposeful lives; but depression, anxiety, fear, and unresolved pain can rob us of this. Life is not always easy, and I'm not promising that I can make everything about your life easier. But what I can do is help you navigate the storms of life with support, increased insight, and new ways of seeing yourself in this world.
My experience includes:
- grief and loss
- life transitions
- movement towards a balanced life
- self-esteem issues
- couples counselling
- family counselling
- addictions
- depression and anxiety
I have ten years of experience in individual, couples, and family counselling in the social services sector; and three years experience working in mental health/addictions community based programs.
I am available for office and online appointments. The first initial phone conversation for 15 minutes is free, and you can then decide if you would like to make an appointment.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Child and Youth Care, a Masters Degree in Counselling, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with BCACC.
I look forward to learning about you, hearing your important story, and navigating a therapeutic journey together towards increased harmony and joy in your life.
