Frequently asked questions
My core approach is acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), a type of CBT, which helps you accept what is out of your control and commit to actions to enrich your life. Whereas CBT typically focuses on the present and future, I believe in also addressing past events and your family history in order to understand the deeper roots of patterns and beliefs.
As well, I believe in celebrating the aspects of your life that are going well and bringing humour into our sessions when appropriate.
My practice is built on the following values: caring, non-judgmental support, and collaboration. I provide a caring space where you can share your innermost thoughts without fear of criticism or shame. I believe in working as a collaborative team. In addition to a person-centered approach, I draw on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
It is completely normal and very common. Opening up takes immense vulnerability, and it is common to feel like your problems aren't serious enough to justify seeking help.
In our sessions, we will move entirely at your pace. I provide a caring and non-judgmental space where you can speak freely without fear of shame. We work as a collaborative team, bringing flexibility to every session so we can tailor our time to exactly what you need that day.
