Practice Information
Accepting new clients! By considering a therapist, you have already taken a significant step toward becoming the person you wish to be. Something has shifted for you. I can help you build on that initial spark by supporting you in feeling more confident and compassionate about yourself, empowering you to lead a more successful and fulfilling life. You'll be able to live in a way more aligned with your values and bring your closer to achieving your goals and dreams. To assist my clients in that direction, I use a trauma and multiculturally informed approach to understand the contexts that led them to where they are.
I am experienced in creating successful treatment plans for my clients to face challenges arising from stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, ADHD, grief, relationships (including marriage and couples counselling), trauma, career and life transitions with renewed strength.
I work with individuals and couples, mostly using evidence-based cognitive behavioural therapeutic (CBT) approaches and EMDR. I don't believe one size fits all and draw upon other models for an effective integrated approach. A big part of my style is creating and maintaining a safe, collaborative and compassionate relationship for effective change to happen.
I immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 2005 and worked as an educator at UBC, SFU, VCC as well as other schools and colleges. Through these experiences, I worked with many domestic and international students, immigrants and refugees in both Canada and Japan to help them achieve their academic goals while overcoming the barriers that faced them. I also graduated with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Adler University and in TESL at UBC.
Throughout my life, my career choices have been defined by my passion for empowering others to break down the personal and systemic barriers that impede them from fulfilling their aspirations. I wish to help individuals to cope with difficult life circumstances and develop skills to thrive in their everyday lives and relationships.
With regard to my lived experience, I am in a bicultural marriage and have two young daughters with my wife. I have had the privilege of being welcomed and invited to stay with a refugee community in Europe. I also faced job loss due to COVID-19 in 2021. Previous clients have told me that these shared experiences have helped me connect with them and assisted in their treatment.
