About Dawna
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my profile.
Sometimes life asks more of us than we know how to give. Depression, loss, or a turning point we didn’t choose can leave us wondering not only how to feel better, but how to live.
Perhaps you’ve lost your sense of direction, your confidence or your hope. Something unexpected may have shaken the life you thought you knew. Or difficulties have been quietly building for years, and the old ways of coping have stopped working.
If so, you are not failing. You are meeting challenges every human being eventually faces: loss, loneliness, uncertainty, changing relationships, aging, anxiety. These seasons are painful, and they can also be an invitation to look more deeply at what matters.
Depression and grief are close to the heart of my work. It is much more than sadness. It can change how we relate to ourselves, to the people we love and to the future. Hope, pleasure and meaning can feel out of reach, along with the sense that anything we do will make a difference. Often the real question isn’t “How do I get rid of these symptoms?” but “What has happened to my life, and where do I go from here?”
In our work together, you won’t be reduced to a diagnosis. My approach is grounded in depth and existential psychotherapy, which takes the hard questions of being human seriously. Rather than treating every painful feeling as something to eliminate, we can get curious about what it may be trying to tell you. When trauma, painful memories or deeply rooted patterns are keeping you stuck, I also draw on EMDR. I adapt my approach to you rather than fitting you into a method.
I have been walking alongside people through difficult times since 2008, and I bring compassion, honesty and curiosity to this work. I don’t see myself as the expert on how you should live. You know your life from the inside, and I bring years of clinical experience and an understanding of how people heal. Together, we find the way forward.
At its deepest, therapy can become a kind of soul work. It is a chance to understand yourself more fully, let go of what no longer serves you, and build a life that feels truly your own.
If you are carrying depression, anxiety, grief, a major transition, or questions about meaning and identity, you don’t have to carry them alone. I welcome you to reach out. I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation so that we can talk briefly about what brings you to therapy and you can decide whether I might be the right therapist for you.
