I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with over 12 years of experience. I’m also completing a PhD where I collaborate on research projects on diabetes, domestic abuse, Indigenous health, long term care and assisted living, relationship satisfaction and support needs of caregivers. I have provided therapeutic support at non-profit organizations, through employee assistance and family programs, at government agencies and in private practice. I plan to register as a psychologist in BC over the next year.
I work with adults and couples dealing with various issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, body image, chronic disease, low self-esteem, family conflict, immigration/integration challenges, work–life balance, grief, relationship deterioration, decision-making, and academic or career distress.
At times it can be hard to put into words what you feel and to know where to start. As your counsellor I will meet you at your pace and I will create an environment where you feel safe to freely speak about your deepest thoughts, goals, hopes, fears and traumas. While working with me you can expect kindness, attentiveness and respect. Through a gentle and collaborative approach, I will help you discover your pathways for change and help you achieve your goals. My aim will be to encourage you to keep moving forward and to offer you effective tools, strategies and techniques so you can do so.
My approach to counselling is client-centred, relational and experiential. In my practice I place an emphasis on empathy, proven strategies, uncovering innate strengths and deep rooted views, perspective shifting, cross-cultural awareness, encouragement, and the therapeutic relationship. Understanding that we all have unique lives, personalities and goals, each session will be tailored to your unique needs. I will take into consideration your diverse background, life experiences, access to resources, challenges and strengths when offering suggestions and creating a therapy plan. I recognize that one size does not fit all. As a second-generation immigrant, I am also mindful of the role culture plays in the lives of individuals.
I have experienced many hardships and loss in my own personal life which have influenced who I am today. These experiences have formed the immense empathy I have for others, the struggles they are trying to overcome and the strong connection I am able to make with my clients. I believe that every person has the inner strength, ability, and resilience to heal and grow from emotional pain and I will be honored to be part of this journey with you!
