Do you feel stuck? Overwhelmed? Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health problems among all age groups across Canada.
I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with over 25 years of experience in working with folks of all ages. I specialize in using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) as these are the most effective modalities in the treatment of anxiety and depression.
Since 1992, I have been working with adolescents in secondary schools in BC. Since completing my M.A. in Counselling Psychology in 2000, I’ve helped youth with a range of challenges, including family struggles, eating disorders, transitioning gender, and distressing peer relationships, but the most common issues that I've helped with are anxiety and depression. My academic specialization and clinical work have been in giving youth the skills and strategies to overcome anxiety and depression.
I believe that individuals find the resilience that they need to overcome challenges by finding and believing in their own inner strength. I like to work alongside folks to help them find their own wisdom rather than handing out advice. I have been honored to witness the transformational change that takes place when individuals understand themselves and find the agency to shift into a mindset that helps them overcome limiting beliefs.
As well, because I have years of experience in working with youth who are looking to transition to post-secondary, I also have the tools and technology to help discover strengths, motivation, interests and personality and matching these with post-secondary programs that will lead to a successful start to a career. I have access to professional assessment (eg. Myers-Briggs Typology Index and Strong Interest Inventory), as well as vast experience in assisting students in navigating the world of scholarships and bursaries.
