During COVID, I offer child, individual and family therapy in-person or online. I am a counsellor with 18 years experience helping individuals, children and families create healthy and fulfilling lives.
My training includes:
- M. Ed. In Counselling Psychology, University of BC
- Registered Clinical Counsellor
- Registered Play Therapist
- (First Canadian) Certified Synergetic Play Therapist
- Various child and child-parent relationship therapy modalities
- Many trauma and research-informed approaches for adult therapy
Most of my work has been involved with complex issues children and families face. These include trauma, abuse, neglect, immigrant experiences, and mental health issues.
If your child falls into any of the following, play therapy may be the solution:
- A bullying target or perpetrator
- Prone to separation anxiety
- Having tantrums and emotional or physical outbursts
- Suffering post-traumatic stress, or acting worried or fearful
- Falling behind in school
- Finding it difficult to socialize
A trained play therapist helps kids express themselves through purposeful, researched, therapeutic ‘play’ activities. Providing a supportive environment, I attempt to understand what kids are going through, and what they want you to know, but can't say out loud.
One of my main approaches is Synergetic Play Therapy, a research-informed, cutting-edge model that is effective in helping children heal faster.
I also believe that effective child therapy happens at home too. I teach you tactics, and give you ‘homework’ to do after sessions. This is so the healing process can accelerate its pace. With continued effort, both within and outside of therapy sessions, you may soon begin to notice your child maintaining a steady mood, feeling comfortable with themselves, and expressing themselves effectively in their relationships with others.
None of us goes through life without challenges. Perhaps you have been feeling down, depressed, anxious, or not good enough? Sometimes you may feel like these have become too much for you to cope on your own.
If you are going through any of the following, know that you are not meant to walk your journey alone.
- Life transitions
- Self-worth struggles
- Relationship problems
- Unstable moods
- Grief and loss
Together, we will gain insights into your experience, identify goals you want to achieve, and explore skills that can be applied to your everyday life. Every therapy session is a journey of exploration and discovery. You don’t have to worry about getting overwhelmed by sharing your struggles and pain. We are not aiming at retelling or reliving traumas. You will be held with compassion and empathy in a trusting therapeutic relationship.
In additional to talk therapy, you will be offered other options: expressive, experiential, somatic, mind-body connection, to name but a few. These could include art, movement, connecting with your body and body sensations, mindfulness, breath work, visualization and many more. You get to experiment to identify the ones you resonate and feel comfortable with.
Our ultimate goal is for you to re-connect with your Self and move forward with newly-gained wisdom and growth.
