I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#18241) who works with young adults, adults, and elders. Those I work with may be seeking help to address grief and loss, anxiety, depression, traumatic and overwhelming experiences, and relationship issues. I have often found that beneath these concerns are deeper questions that I help people explore and respond to, such as, Who am I? Where do I belong? What is my purpose? Principles that guide my work include:
- Meaning as a core motivation and necessary experience in life,
- My belief in the mutual expertise that I bring and you bring to therapy,
- The creativity and strength with which people respond to life's challenges,
- The importance of a safe, nonjudgmental environment for exploring what is important to you.
My practice is Meaning-Centred. This means I am closely listening for how you make sense of yourself and your life, and what is most important to you. It means taking a view that, while reducing symptoms is an important part of the process, it is by addressing and creating meaning in life that people achieve balance, well-being, and authenticity.
My practice is Trauma-Informed. This means I have training and supervision in working with intense, overwhelming experiences that may bring about persistent nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive and distressing thoughts and feelings, and a deep sense of loss of one's identity, connections, and place in the world.
My practice uses an Interpersonal Process approach. This views the connection between the therapist and the person as one of the core "ingredients” of change in therapy. “Interpersonal process” is another way of saying “what happens between people (and how).” Using this approach, we look together at the kinds of patterns or strategies used in relationships, and how these can be adjusted and/or expanded if they are no longer serving well.
My practice is Integrative. This means I am able to bring a blend of approaches and techniques into therapy, with the understanding that each person's context, goals, and preferences are unique.
Ultimately, as a counsellor my goal is to assist people in knowing both the wisdom and limits in the ways they respond to life’s challenges. And my hope is to assist people in generating new, more adaptive, and more fulfilling ways to live.

Research shows that how well you connect with your counsellor (for example, “Do I feel like they get me? That I can open up to them? That I can trust them?”) is a key factor in how useful counselling will be for you. With that in mind, I invite you to reach out for a free, no-obligation, 15-minute consultation to get a sense of whether we would be a good fit.
