My name is Leanne and I’m a Registered Social Worker with a Masters of Social Work degree. I’m a therapist, university educator and writer. I see clients either online or in person at my clinical space at Fort and Quadra in downtown Victoria. I am currently accepting new clients.
In the nearly 20 years that I have been supporting individuals and families to manage complex needs, I’ve noticed that many people feel a sense of shame that they “couldn’t figure it out on their own.” The thing about life problems is that things are so complex that it can be challenging, if not impossible, to sort through everything on your own. When we go through a life change, stories about how we’re doing and who we are emerge and it can be really easy to start believing that our problems are insurmountable.
In our time together, I will deeply listen to your story, like a witness to you as you undergo this life change. Using my clinical training and years of experience supporting others go through their “worst day” or “dark night of the soul,” I’ll help you to create new meaning out of what is happening while ensuring that any solutions that are proposed emerge out of your core values, interests, desires and hopes. The therapy space is where you get to feel in control of your life again.
Some of the common challenges that I support people to manage include:
- anxiety and the wild ways that it convinces folks to doubt themselves
- answers to questions like “am I on the right path?” and “should I leave my partner?” and “is now the right time to go back to school?” and “is it worth it to reach out to my mom again?”
- coming to terms with terminal illness, both of the person seeking therapy and their family. Together, I’ve helped individuals and families to face the death and dying process with dignity and love. After, I’ve supported families to find ways to address loss and create new life meanings out of grief
- managing complex family dynamics, including separation and divorce, blended families, and parent-child relationships
- love and relationships of all kinds between all genders
- working through huge life transitions, like graduating from university, becoming single after many years in relationship, coping with “empty nest syndrome,” and changing careers
- navigating burnout such that it loosens the grey rock of indifference and locates meaning, creativity, joy and play in life again
Whatever your concern, you deserve to be heard. My work draws from years of my work at UVIC, educating new therapists on the nuances of helping work, and from my clinical practice in health care and other settings. Whatever brings you to therapy doesn’t have to be a bad story anymore. Together, we’ll create something new and meaningful to you.
