deciphercounselling.comPractice information:
I believe that every person who comes into the room brings unique stories and lived experiences. Therefore, I orient therapy based on your needs. I always prioritize how you’re feeling and work with the understanding that we all change as we figure things out. I work with folks who may be dealing with the limitations and barriers that BIPOC and underrepresented communities face in accessing mental health support, including invalidation and oppression. I aim to create a space where people of all intersectionalities feel like they belong, can be themselves in their most unique ways, and have their stories heard and held. I am continuously working to decolonize therapy in my counselling practice and personally around intersectional parts of my identity.
I frequently work with individuals who are dealing with anxiety and depression, disordered eating and body image issues, self-esteem and identity (racial, gender and intersections), trauma and complex PTSD. Some approaches that inform how I work are pulling from Narrative therapy, Queer theory, Intersectional Feminism (Kimberlé Crenshaw and bell hook’s work), Justice-doing work, “Oppression” and Resistance-Informed practice (Vikki Reynolds' work), Somatic Abolitionism and trauma-informed therapies (from Resmaa Menakem, Bessel van der Kolk’s work and EMDR), Humanistic and Jungian approach to Art Therapy, and Health At Every Size. You can expect a genuine and compassionate approach when we are together.
