Gretal provides phone and video/virtual counselling to clients across British Columbia. She offers individual counselling to youth (12+) and adults. She identifies as a culturally responsive counsellor for BIPOC individuals, and a skilled and experienced counsellor for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Gretal works with clients to assist them in exploring, understanding, and resolving issues causing discomfort or concern in their life. For those grappling with difficult choices or wanting to explore their path ahead, her compassion and curiosity allows for a supportive space to work through uncertainty.
Her approach is one of support, encouraging clients to develop a deeper understanding of personal agency, values, inner gifts, and strengths. Gretal’s focus in the counselling relationship is to assist her clients to develop readiness for change, and to offer assistance through transition periods.
With extensive experience in private and public mental health services, Gretal supports clients in addressing a wide range of challenges. These include depression, anxiety, grief, loss, parenting concerns, life transitions, identity exploration, spiritual crisis /emergence, addiction, and relationship struggles.
Many of these concerns have become especially pronounced for people as a result of the challenges experienced during the global pandemic. It is sometimes in the aftermath of such a crisis that we discover just how much there is to process, and Gretal is available as a support for clients seeking to make their lives better.
Gretal uses a strength based, trauma informed and solution focused approach to her work with clients. She draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Single Session Therapy (SST).
Gretal has over 15 years of experience in the field of psychology. She graduated from Wayne State University with a Master of Arts in Psychology in 2008. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
She gratefully acknowledges that it is an honour and a privilege to live and work in the traditional territory of the Puntledge, E’iksan and K’omoks First Nations. These are beautiful lands, enriched by all the two legged, four legged, winged and sea inhabiting creatures and abundant natural flora all around. She often enjoys connecting to spirit by walking the land with her family and beloved dog, Cedar.
Please note: emails/messages sent to Gretal through the CounsellingBC.com website are forwarded to the confidential inbox of the Clinical Director of Gravitate Counselling Inc., who can answer your questions and/or help you book your first appointment with Gretal.
