Practice Information
You may be the person others rely on. Capable, thoughtful, and accustomed to holding a lot, but lately something isn't working the way it used to.
Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed or burned out, navigating grief or a major life transition, living with chronic pain or illness, anxiety, depression, or perinatal / post-partum challenges or parenthood, or beginning to understand yourself through the lens of neurodivergence. Perhaps you've done therapy before and understand your patterns, but still find yourself caught in ways of responding that you can't simply think your way out of.
I'm Claire Weiss, a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over 14 years of experience. I offer online / virtual therapy to adults across BC, as well as in-person counselling in Langley. I especially enjoy working with thoughtful, self-aware people who want to understand themselves more deeply and create meaningful, sustainable change.
My approach is warm, collaborative, relational and experiential. Rather than focusing only on symptoms or strategies, I'm interested in what is happening underneath them. We might explore the different parts of you that are trying to protect you, how past experiences continue to live in your body and nervous system, and what helps you feel more connected to yourself.
My work integrates IFS-informed therapy / parts work, somatic and trauma therapy, Mindful Self-Compassion, OEI/EMDR, mindfulness and expressive approaches. Therapy is tailored to the person in front of me rather than following a predetermined formula.
I have particular experience with burnout and overwhelm, trauma and anxiety, neurodivergence, chronic pain and illness, grief and loss, perinatal and postpartum counselling, caregiving and helping-professional stress, and major life transitions. Many of the people I work with have spent years being capable, caring for others or pushing through difficult experiences while losing touch with their own needs, limits or sense of themselves.
I also specialize in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, including specialized consultation, preparation and psychedelic integration therapy. Online integration and preparation sessions are available across BC, with limited in-person services available in Langley when appropriate.
I believe we often have more wisdom, capacity and possibility within us than we've been able to access. My role is not to tell you who you should become, but to help create the conditions where you can understand yourself more deeply and move toward a life that feels more authentic, connected and sustainable.
I have been in private practice since 2012 and hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Over the years, my work has been shaped not only by formal training, but also by extensive clinical experience, supervision, mentorship and lived experience. I have particular interests in trauma and complex trauma, neurodivergence, chronic pain and illness, grief, perinatal and postpartum experiences, burnout, caregiving and the emotional demands of helping professions.
My therapeutic training includes EMDR, Observed Experiential Integration (OEI), Mindful Self-Compassion, mindfulness, expressive arts therapy, and my approach integrates IFS - informed therapy / parts-work, somatic therapies and nature-based approaches. I tend to work experientially, which means we may pay attention not only to what you think about an experience, but also to emotions, bodily sensations, imagery, and to understanding all the parts that make up your identity, as well as what emerges within the therapeutic relationship.
Psychedelic-Assisted therapy has become an important area of specialization in my practice. I hold a Graduate Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy and have worked as a therapist in Psychedelic clinical trials, including research involving psilocybin and DMT. I have also been involved in psychedelic therapy education, professional consultation and ethics work within the field. I offer Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy consultation, preparation and psychedelic integration therapy for people seeking support in making sense of previous psychedelic experiences.
Alongside my counselling practice, I provide clinical supervision and professional consultation for counsellors and other therapists. My supervision style is relational and collaborative, with attention to clinical judgment, ethics, countertransference, therapist development and the complexity of the therapeutic relationship. I have a particular interest in supporting clinicians working with trauma, somatic and experiential approaches, neurodivergence and psychedelic-assisted therapy.
If you are considering working together, I offer a free 20-minute online consultation. It is a chance for us to talk briefly about what is bringing you to counselling, for you to ask questions about how I work, and for both of us to get a sense of whether we might be a good fit.
