Bonnie Zargari is a Canadian Certified Clinical Counselor who sees clients in person, online or via telephone. Her main clinical focus is working with adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety and/or general dissatisfaction with their lives. Bonnie has experience and knowledge working with other populations as well.
Bonnie holds a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling and has over 10 years of experience providing counseling services to a wide variety of individuals in multiple settings including government agencies and private organizations. She is fluent in both English and Farsi.
When we feel stuck, we start to question our life’s purpose and often start to doubt past and future decisions. Feeling stuck can often lead to confusion, hopelessness, fear, paralysis and lack of motivation. These experiences can generally cause anxiety, panic, OCD, depression and generally a low quality of life.
Although these feelings can be incredibly painful and may lead us to feel helpless, it’s important to remind ourselves that with the right support, we can change our lives. Some of the benefits of counseling include improved quality of life, decreased depressive symptoms, decreased anxiety symptoms, more self-confidence and empowerment to make better decisions and improved interpersonal relationships.
While a lot of counseling is mostly talk focused, Bonnie believes that to get the most out of therapy there has to be an element of action. While Bonnie acknowledges the importance of talk, she doesn’t make this the main focus of your time together. Instead, Bonnie focuses on changing certain behaviors and thought patterns that leave you feeling stuck.
Studies continuously show that evidence based, action-oriented styles of therapy are incredibly effective for many issues including anxiety and depression. Bonnie primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Based Therapy in her practice. These are evidence-based approaches, meaning that there is ample scientific evidence that the methods that have been developed actually produce change. These are also action-oriented approaches, meaning that they emphasize doing and taking action rather than just verbal communication or discussion. Bonnie also has specialized training in Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Bonnie will provide you with a safe, non-judgmental and compassionate space so that you feel supported and understood. Her approach to helping individuals is directive yet soft. Instead of expecting you to do all the talking she will provide you with education, tools and techniques that will actually start giving you results right away.
Please contact Bonnie via telephone or email for a complimentary 15-minute consultation.
