My name is pronounced (Eye-gheen Lar-key) and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia. I am of Turkic Iranian descent, speak conversational French and Farsi and have lived in various parts of Canada since early childhood.
My journey becoming a therapist began through my interest in Hypnotherapy. My personal experience with trance was transformative and I wanted to learn how to provide these types of experiences to others. I received training in Hypnotherapy through apprenticeship in 2008 and later went on to study Anthropology, Social Work, Gender Studies and eventually obtained a degrees in Psychology and Counselling.
I am most passionate about art, travel and learning all I can about the human experience. More specifically I am interested in how we can foster greater meaning, connection, resilience, growth and joy in our lives.
Clients see me for various reasons including but not limited to : anxiety, depression, grief/loss and/or family, friend or relationship issues or unmet expectations. Some people seek counselling to process past experiences that continue to negatively impact their lives; and others seek support to better navigate their relationships and day to day challenges. Although many people seek counselling when they are in challenging periods of their lives,I also see clients in relatively stable places seeking deeper internal connection and insights.The one thing everyone I meet has in common is a desire to live a more authentically and joyfully in accordance with their own unique values and desires.
Therapy may include processing day to day challenges or may focus more on past experiences. This may mean focusing on thought patterns, emotional states or through employing various techniques to access your internal motivations, also referred to as your subconscious mind.
The style of therapy I gravitate towards is Emotion Focused, Solution Oriented, Trauma and Nervous System Informed.
That means I believe it’s important to pay attention to our emotional responses and that we all have internal resources and wisdom to move from problems towards solutions. I believe we can access this internal wisdom, and motivation through a compassionate therapeutic alliance.
I employ interventions such as Focusing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Observed Experiential Integration (OEI), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Bilateral Stimulation, Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT), Mindfulness and Hypnotherapy.
My goal is to help clients gain greater insight, understanding and compassion for themselves, their relationships, as well as their past experiences. I believe gaining deeper insights in a compassionate environment often translates greater empowerment, to motivation for positive changes and towards greater emotional wellbeing.
Everyone's healing journey is different, and therapy is most helpful when there is a good fit between a client's needs and the therapist’s offerings.
