I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Adjunct Professor of Counselling Psychology at UBC. I focus on both couple counselling and areas of individual counselling with adults. For couple counselling, I can help you learn how to relate and communicate more constructively, foster a greater understanding of each others implicit needs and emotions, and ultimately increase greater validation and connection in the relationship.
For individual counselling, I help with mild-to-moderate anxiety, stress, depression, phobias, etc. I also provide self-development/personal growth counselling that includes areas that address stress management, self-exploration, emotional resilience, mood management, and how to form more adaptive core emotional beliefs to enhance happiness, self-esteem, and peace of mind in life.
My therapeutic approach is an integration of evidence-based therapies designed to reconsolidate the maladaptive implicit memories and create new thinking and behaviour patterns. I often provide practical knowledge and skills about how the brain and mind work, how this influences perceptions and behaviours, and strategies to better manage the mind.
Some tips to make the most out of counselling, and the biggest factors that lead to positive change in counselling, are: 1) An open-mind to seeing your self and the world in a different way; 2) A willingness to try different approaches; and, 3) Putting in effort to incorporate and apply the knowledge and tools learned in counselling into your life.
