Andrea Yeo is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, a Certified Parenting Facilitator, a Licenced School Teacher and has her Masters of Education in Leadership and Counselling Degree. She has worked with children, youth, families and couples in a counselling and public school setting for the past 25 years.
It is Andrea's belief that all individuals have the potential to find peace, happiness and satisfaction in their lives; but may need guidance and the strengthening of skills to move forward through life more effectively. In Andrea's view, social disconnect, isolation or ineffective communication is a common thread to feeling unfulfilled and frustrated. Individuals will be encouraged to find a sense of purpose, direction and contentment through self discovery therapy.
Andrea has worked in the mental health field in various capacities which has given her a wide array of experiences with different populations. Initially, Andrea worked for Family Services of Greater Vancouver as a Youth Counsellor counselling high risk youth ages 14-24 years at three locations: Vancouver's Safe house, Vancouver's Youth Detox Centre and a Group home in Richmond. Andrea also worked as a Family Support Worker and Family Preservation Worker at Family Services of the North Shore working with youth, families and couples on a variety of complex issues. She worked as a Childcare Counsellor at Burnaby School District in several behaviour programs assisting children and youth to achieve success (both socially and academically) at school. Andrea has been a professional high school teacher for 12 years focusing on topics such as: youth personal growth and development, career development, understanding the human psyche, personality, human rights, assertiveness skills, boundaries, LGBTQ issues, stress, depression and physical development through teaching Psychology, Social Justice and Career and Personal Planning. Andrea has facilitated several groups in topics such as: parenting, stress management, anger management, anti-bullying, social skills, parenting skills, sexual orientation and sexual health. Andrea has volunteered at Willingdon Closed Custody Centre for Youth to assist young people with their future plans after being released from custody. She has volunteered for the Salvation Army assisting residents of the Downtown Eastside and has volunteered on humanitarian building trips to developing countries with youths seeking a life changing experience. Through creative problem solving, caring intervention, encouragement, deep listening, goal setting, mutual respect, skill development and family constellation, individuals will be guided to find solutions to their issues and find peace and happiness in their lives. Andrea has experience working with individuals who have struggled with: anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, peer relations, self esteem, school problems, bullying, substance misuse, self harm, sibling conflict, parenting issues, sexual problems, couples conflict, communication skills, sexual orientation and career and educational decision making. From an Adlerian perspective you will learn to be more resilient, reduce your stress, have more satisfaction at home, school or work, increase healthy coping mechanisms and have more fulfilling relationships.
