We are human and challenges arise for each of us. Counselling can be a means of support a way to heal from past experiences and to plan for the future. There are many reasons people access counselling. The most common reasons are: depression or anxiety, relationship issues, social isolation, body issues, motivation, parenting, substance use, a traumatic experience, academic challenges, an inability to identify feeling, and needing to talk to an impartial person. The list is quite diverse and these are only the most common reasons. I, Tessa Sivak, am here to work alongside you and draw from my professional experiences and training to bring more balance, joy, and health into your life.
Different Approaches I Use:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: a newer form of CBT that is backed by empirical research and is focused on mindfulness and acceptance, motivation, and behaviour
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: has been a mainstay of counselling for decades. This theory is based on examining thoughts, feelings, and behaviours with a goal of understanding oneself and developing more helpful patterns moving forward
Narrative Therapy: is excellent for separating the person and challenges they encounter, finding the strengths the person has, identifying a more desirable life path, and putting this into action
Transpersonal Therapy: is focused on the healing nature of relationship. It draws on spirituality, transcendence, and modern psychology. Change and healing occurs when we have an experience with another that is contrary to the negative experience we originally had
Body Focused Therapies: extensive research shows that experiences can get trapped within the human nervous system and cause physical, emotional, and psychological discomfort. I work with bodily sensations, the nervous systems, and knowledge about brain functioning. I am also registered as an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapist. EMDR is the gold standard in PTSD and trauma therapy and is also effective for processing many different life challenges or treating mental health diagnoses
I offer a free 20-minute consultation to discuss how counselling could be helpful. I am at the clinic Tuesday 2:15-8:15, Wednesday 2:15-8:15, Thursday 2:15-6:15, and every other Friday 8-2.
