Practice information:
Tammy works with individuals and couples who feel stuck, ambivalent, discouraged, overwhelmed, and have difficulty communicating with partners. Her background includes years in the business sector and competing in sports at the Olympic level, where she retired early due to injuries. She has been married for over 25 years and is a mother, stepmother, and elder caregiver. These life experiences inform her counselling in the areas of life transitions, loss, anxiety, depression, addictions, disordered eating, relationships, infidelity, postpartum depression, step-parenting, elder care, and stress management. While parenting is usually challenging, Tammy understands how step-parenting can create increased feelings of resentment, confusion, and alienation. She knows there are solutions to the complex problems of remarriage. She has also seen excellent results when providing pre-marital counselling.
With extensive training in grief and loss and several years co-facilitating grief support groups, Tammy counsels people who have experienced the pain of any type of loss, including pet loss, whether the loss is publically recognized or not.
Tammy has experience assisting clients who are impacted by individuals, often family members, with strong narcissistic traits and other personality disorder traits.
Tammy offers clients a non-judgmental place of safety where they can be truly heard, which is the beginning point of growth and healing.
In her work, Tammy draws from training in Adlerian, Solution-Focused, Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral, Transpersonal, and Emotionally Focused therapies. She has found powerful changes result from bringing to awareness and questioning beliefs that are limiting and lead to self-compromising behaviour. Practical steps and strategies are taught to enable clients to reach their desired goals, manage their stress, and regulate their emotions. Tammy believes that change is always possible for people.
