After over a decade of practice as a counselor and social worker with people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, I offer and integrate behavioral sleep therapy into my practice as it can significantly improve your overall wellbeing, so you can spend more time focused on what matters most to you.
If you're having sleep troubles, therapy for sleep is considered the most effective and clinically validated treatment for insomnia by medical organizations such as the Centre for Effective Practice and Ontario College of Family Physicians and American College of Physicians.
Healthy sleep is often overlooked when we talk about mental health, but when insomnia goes unresolved, it can have a significant impact on your health, increasing your risk of depression, anxiety, and high blood pressure.
Poor sleep also lowers your quality of life and has long-term impacts on your physical, emotional, and mental health, in addition to poorer performance and increased risk of injury and errors at work.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) can help you resolve your sleep problem so you can wake up with the energy and focus you need to make the most of your day. Some benefits of addressing your insomnia include:
Reduced anxiety - Learn and practice effective strategies to calm and relax your mind throughout the day
Feel better - Improve your mood, your energy and your focus to get things done
Improved sleep - Fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer with fewer awakenings during the night
Reduce reliance on sleep aids - Become less reliant on medication, alcohol or other substances to help you sleep
In addition to sleep and insomnia therapy, I also have extensive experience helping with:
Depression and anxiety
Substance use, misuse, and addiction
Psychosis and concurrent disorders
Relationships (please note my practice focuses primarily on individuals)
Major life transitions related to aging, illness, and family
Grief and loss
Workplace and caregiver stress
Sex, sexuality, and gender identity
My approach to therapy is integrative, collaborative, inclusive, and grounded in evidence-based research. I do my best to avoid jargon and will continually evaluate our work together with your feedback to ensure we are moving towards your goals.
I offer a complimentary 20 minute consultation, either in-person in my Downtown Vancouver office or by phone, to answer any questions you may have about counselling, therapy, and working with me. I also offer secure online video therapy for clients across British Columbia.
- I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers and hold a Master's degree in Social Work.
