Counselling Process
Making the decision to seek out counselling is a courageous step towards healing. Often people hesitate to seek out counselling because they feel it is a sign of weakness. On the contrary, it is a conscious choice to take responsibility for one’s internal pain. A choice to recognize that there is a problem and that you have the power and resources to take responsibility for your own healing.
It is my belief that the focus of counselling is on empowering clients so that they can reach their full potential and lead more fulfilling lives. I believe that everyone has the internal resources (wisdom, strength, persistence, etc.) they need to cope with difficult life situations and to grow through them. I will endeavour to collaborate with you to discover these resources, establish positive goals that are focused on health and possibilities, harness hope and help you connect more fully with yourself and others.
Coming to your first counselling session may fill you with apprehension and anxiety. This is normal. I provide a warm and compassionate environment where clients feel safe enough to explore their difficulties and process their feelings. I also have the unique ability to connect with youth and help them feel accepted without judgment so that they are able to embark on their own path towards healing.
Working with youth, I often utilize art and expressive therapies to allow for them to access their inner world in a less threatening way. In addition, my practice is guided by Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Solution-Focused ideas.
