Education, Training & Focus of Practice
I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology from New York University and am a Registered Psychologist in both BC and Alberta. My training has mainly focused on cognitive-behavioral, solution focused and narrative therapies but I continue to attend conferences & workshops to increase my knowledge base.
I am also currently working on my doctorate.
My areas of interest in counselling focus on clients who present with issues such as: relationship concerns, separation & divorce, mood disorders, anxiety issues, substance use, domestic violence and anger management. I also work with adolescents and families.
Philosophy
I believe that counselling is a process which depends on a client’s understanding of their current issue and their readiness for change. This is enhanced by building a relationship in which the client feels trusting enough to share in a respectful and confidential environment. Each person has the capacity to change, and that they often need emotional support and guidance to do so. My role is to support the client and help them build on the strengths that they have already developed.
