Ryan focuses on meeting clients where they are at. He supports clients in the areas of their lives where they are experiencing difficulty, while helping them recognize their own strength. Ryan helps his clients learn and practice healthy responses to challenges, acquiring skills that they can apply outside of session and in future times of difficulty. His ideal client is engaged in their desire to grow, develop and challenge ideas or behaviors that are no longer serving them well. He likes to work with clients who are ready to try new thought patterns and behaviors to address long-standing and/or ongoing issues in their lives.
Ryan has extensive experience working with clients to address anxiety, fear, depression, addictive/dependency behaviours, and relationship challenges. He identifies as a culturally responsive counsellor for BIPOC individuals, and can assist clients with exploring their racial and/or cultural identity. Ryan can also help with developing stronger communication skills, addressing burnout and/or compassion fatigue, and managing workplace issues.
Through the use of a blend of counselling methods, Ryan strives to provide meaningful support to his clients. His approach to counselling includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MiCBT) and Person-Centered Therapy.
Ryan has been a counsellor for over 15 years. He is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and provides guidance to counsellors-in-training and his fellow counsellors as an Approved Clinical Supervisor with the BCACC. He is also a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CPCA) and is a part-time faculty member at City University of Seattle (Calgary Campus). Ryan has Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Education in Counselling (MEd) from the University of Northern British Columbia.
