Neelam Olk holds the designation of a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. In addition to her private practice, she has worked in outpatient mental health clinics with the Fraser Health Authority, substance use clinics and residential treatment facilities. She founded Life Wise Counselling to support individuals and couples who are ready for change, open to embarking on their healing journey.
The vast majority of us can feel powerless to our problems, stuck in destructive patterns or challenged with negative thoughts that weigh heavy on our shoulders. Trauma can show up as fear based thinking, people pleasing, living in auto-pilot, difficulty setting boundaries, putting other people first, impulsive behavior, insecurity, self-doubt, depression, anxiety, anxious attachment styles, etc. Healing from our lived experiences is an ever changing path, with ups and downs along the way. Personal development is not passive and requires patience, courage, commitment and connection among other things. True connection is a basic human need, necessary for cultivating growth. However, past wounds can show up in our relationships, making it difficult to reach out to loved ones.
Research shows that a strong therapeutic alliance built upon respect is imperative for positive outcomes in therapy. Using a strength based and holistic approach to suit your needs, I'm committed to creating an environment that allows you to explore your story in a way that is empowering and constructive. Our ability to put ourselves first, make productive choices, and feel good is deeply affected by our past emotional history. I draw upon a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach as I strongly believe in evidence based practices that integrate the mind-body connection. Using tools from various schools of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gottman Methods, and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) you will discover how to to make more conscious choices and transition out of living in auto-pilot. Through conversation, you will gain perspective into your situation and behavior. You will learn to embrace your challenges and recognize triggers as agents for change. Together, we will discuss what real transformation means to you and how we can achieve your goals.
