Relationships can be the most inspiring, supportive, energy boosting, places for us to thrive. They can also dominate our thoughts and feelings 24/7 when they suck! Know what I mean? You can’t get a thing done and catch yourself questioning how you ended up here with her or him!
Unless you were modelled a healthy relationship, chances are you are trial and erroring it all over the place.
My name is Nicole McLeod, I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor working on the North Shore. I recently converted to working exclusively with COUPLES. I have been a therapist for 15 years working with both Individuals and Couples and found to deeply rewarding and often fun! Yes I noticed I was having fun working with couples. So I made the leap and am not looking back.
My area of interest is working with professional couples who are either stagnant, which is a fancy way of saying they have become roommates and have lost that loving feeling, or couples who can’t seem to move a problem along, and now everything is a problem, a tedious fight that spills all over the place. Smoldering conflict isn’t the same as flaming hostility. If you identify as a couple that is highly hostile, then I am not the right therapist for you. . If you have been an active athlete, like to work hard, can take direct feedback, are open to both talk therapy as well as lessons from an Improv actor and other fun playful approaches then reach out, we are going to work well together!
I was an RN for 10 years at Lion's Gate Hospital working in the ICU while supporting families through illness. I’ve also been a BCIT nursing instructor teaching science and theory and I ran a health a wellness company serving corporate clients providing in-house wellness programs and executive health management across the Lower Mainland. My professional passion is how the brain works. I am a Master's trained counsellor with extensive education in interpersonal neurobiology, developmental psychology, and Adlerian approaches.
Outside of work I am obsessed with being active! I love hills. I have completed 5 Gran Fondo’s, many marathons, dappled in the Triathlon world but not my cup of tea, currently am training for 2 endurance challenges in 2023, Run the World in the Spanish Alps and 29029 in UTAH’s Snowbasin.
I never liked public speaking much, nor attention in a group, so I conquered that with joining Vancouver’s Improv world! After 1 solid year of training and 8 shows under my belt, my brain has changed. Improv lessons are really lessons for life, I’ll show what I’m talking about.
My office is in a forest like setting, there is greenery allover. I am a self declared floral rockstar wannabe! And for family, I am married with 4 growing kids, highschool and beyond, and have a high needs golden retriever Ollie that joins me in sessions, daily.
