May believes that all people, regardless of their personal struggles come to therapy with inherent strength and capacity and that through the therapy process, these strengths can be mobilized into positive action. May is a strong proponent of working from a strength-based practice framework when counselling individuals and couples. She understands differences due to culture, race, poverty and sexual orientation and incorporates these into her practice. May’s philosophy is that fulfilling relationships are the key to our happiness. That includes relationship to family, friends, workmates and the relationship we have with our self.
May brings over 30 years of experience to counselling. May counselled in many settings: rehabilitation, palliative care, and Hospice. She developed expertise in trauma, bereavement and loss, relationship trauma, and with assisting individuals and families rebuild their lives. May has a masters degree and is registered with the BC College of social workers.
May has a gentle and welcoming presence and a passion for working with people. She uses a wide range of approaches, brings a collaborative approach to counselling and has tremendous faith in human resiliency.
I know from personal experience that counselling takes courage and to that end, I will aim to provide a safe and welcoming place for you to begin to do the work of transformation. May stays current with new developments in the field of counselling and continues to integrate these into her practice to enhance her work and benefit clients whenever possible. She creates a warm comfortable, safe and trusting atmosphere where clients can explore whatever they need to in a pace that feels right to them.
