Maureen is a counsellor for Manifest Wellness a men's mental health clinic. Through her counselling work at Manifest she aims to destigmatize mental health support for men, and increasing access to counselling.
Maureen Kwong holds a Masters of Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University, Fredericton N.B. Maureen stays current following researchers at the forefront of psychology and integrated health, and has focused her training and courses in attachment theory, somatic awareness and trauma-based approaches to therapy which includes courses in the comorbidities that can result from trauma.
With 3 years of experience working specifically with male survivors of abuse of all types, victims of violence and bullying, trauma, or relational breakdowns. Her clients have been from
vast and varied backgrounds, which includes past offenders, experiencing oppression, marginalization and homelessness, struggling with substance abuse, or living with low self-
esteem and self-worth.
Within the therapeutic relationship, she draws from multiple modalities and theories that support a relational and person-centred environment backed by neurosciences and somatic awareness. Her keen interest in attachment styles helps inform her clients of specific characteristics and behaviours that arise in adult relationships. This has brought deep insight into the varied clients she has worked with. She is passionate and compassionate about her clients and will meet them wherever they are with non-judgemental support, helping them to reveal the strengths that lay beneath the challenges they seek to understand and change.
"As a member of the human family, I believe part of our journey of healing is remembering that we are all interconnected and that we can complement each other with our masculine and feminine characteristics to create a safe and healthy world. Each of us has untapped potential that is waiting to be nurtured and given the space to thrive. The power in the belief of this potential can bring great change and growth to each one of us."
