Melanie Adamsons is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and a master’s degree from the University of Northern British Columbia. Melanie is passionate about providing person-centred and trauma-informed care to clients with diverse mental health needs. She has experience providing compassionate care and support to those who are struggling with mood and anxiety disorders, childhood trauma, grief and loss, relationship issues, and intense emotions.
Her interests are in working from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) framework. Melanie completed a practicum placement where she provided a DBT skills group in a community mental health setting for young adults who struggle with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Apart from her clinical work, Melanie’s research interests have focused on how people’s ability to make social inferences impacts the quality of their close relationships.
Melanie enjoys working collaboratively with clients to help them move towards their goals and to live according to their values, in a manner that is genuine, open-minded, and curious.
Melanie is committed to practicing ongoing cultural humility for each individual she works with. She believes that people are doing the best they can given their current level of skills and experiences to date. At the same time, she believes that people can always exceed their “best” in the next moment.
