Lezli Wrixon is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Certified Child Play (CPT) Therapist. Lezli currently offers counselling services to Fort St. John, Charlie Lake, Taylor and in the North Peace area at Finding Balance Counselling and Consulting.
Life can be complicated. Anxiety, stress, traumatic events, grief, loss, family change, divorce, and mental health diagnosis (ASD, ADD, ADHD, OCD, ODD, GAD, Depression...) can all lead to internal conflict resulting in struggles with identity, self esteem, self regulation and social skills. Counselling is about growing strengths and being empowered to step beyond those events or challenges in life that have left you feeling vulnerable or wounded.
Both traditional and expressive therapies provide the potential for increasing problem solving skills, self-regulation, resilience, self-esteem and deep healing. Accessing the creative right brain can help develop coping strategies for new challenges that arise later in life. For many, the creative opportunity allows for freer expression of personal issues, which then becomes a catalyst for positive change.
Beyond solution-focused therapy where the emphasis is on speaking directly about concerns, opportunities are provided to explore personal struggles through art mediums, sandplay and play therapy. No special skill or talent is required for these activity-based therapies, only an openness to work with personal challenges through strengths based, creative outlets.
In my experience as a parent, teacher, and counsellor, I have found that playing, art, and creative activities have proven to be the most effective and meaningful ways to facilitate positive growth. In addition to my current qualifications (RCC, CPT) I am completing training and supervision in Art Therapy and Sandplay, with the goal of receiving credentials in 2018.
