Hello and welcome! I'm Kate (she/her), Registered Clinical Counsellor and owner of Coastal Calm Therapy. Pregnancy, fertility, and the postpartum period has become infinitely more complex in our current world, and I am here to help. With my training and experience in perinatal mental health, I can help you to manage pregnancy stressors and anxiety, perinatal depression, and support you as you process your birth and navigate your postpartum experience. Whether you are expecting, your baby has already arrived, or you have lost your pregnancy, you may be encountering some intense emotions, and counselling helps you to understand your experience and gives you the tools to move through the next phase of your life with more confidence and self-compassion.
My approach combines elements of mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, and somatic therapy to create a unique counselling experience that is tailored to the needs of each client. You are unique, and your therapy should be too! Mindfulness plays a critical role in developing more self-awareness of thought patterns, triggers, and ways of coping that you may not have noticed before. I offer mindfulness practices as tools to aid in nervous system and emotional regulation to encourage you to feel more grounded and centered. I take a collaborative, holistic approach to counselling that takes many different areas of your functioning into account and inspires a sense of safety and control.
A little bit more about me: I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, with a BA in psychology from SFU and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I have additional training from Pacific Postpartum Support Society, Postpartum Support International, Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Trainings, Return to Zero Hope, the Crisis Centre of BC, and the Mindfulness-Based Somatic Therapy Healing Centre, to name a few. I am also a mother of two, and my own postpartum and parenting experiences inspire my work every day. When I am not in my private practice or with my family, I am facilitating postpartum groups with the Pacific Postpartum Support Society, spending time in our beautiful BC forests, expressing myself creatively, singing or practicing yoga.
Connection is everything in counselling, so I provide free 20-minute consultations to give you an opportunity to chat about what you are looking for, and to see if we are a good fit. Feel free to reach out, ask questions, or book a consultation so we can connect soon. You are not alone!
