I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Experimental Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and have a Masters in Counselling Psychology. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#12663) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. Through a circuitous path as a helping professional, I have accumulated over 30 years of experience in rehabilitation psychology in my career as a neuro-developmental physiotherapist, and gained extensive experience assessing and treating impairment in physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and occupational capacities due to injury, illness, or trauma.
My Personal Style:
My personal style integrates the key concepts and techniques of several theoretical orientations to fit the needs and variability of diverse client groups. My integrated approach covers a wide variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, OCD, stress, self-esteem issues, grief and loss, intergenerational, life transitions, seniors’ problems, and marital relationship difficulties. In addition I work with adults with special needs, LGBTQ, and with multicultural issues.
I offer individual, relationship/couple, and family therapy to teens, adolescents, adults, seniors, and adults with special needs. I am competent to work with depression, anxiety, OCD (ERP), self-esteem issues, grief and loss, intergenerational difficulties, life transitions, seniors’ issues, marriage, pre-marital and relationship difficulties, adult special needs, and LGBTQ issues. I integrate a multicultural perspective into my work.
I have trained in various evidence-based theoretical models and have among others, expanded training in emotion-focused, cognitive behavioural (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), narrative, brief psychodynamic, AEDP, and solution-focused therapies. I also have focused training in multicultural, intergenerational, group and family therapies, and body-centered and mindfulness approaches.
