Jisu holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Bachelor of Social Work from Grant MacEwan University. She is registered with both the British Columbia College of Social Workers and the Alberta College of Social Workers.
Jisu has supported a variety of populations in the field of psychiatry, ranging from children to seniors, with a specialization in working with adults and adolescents. Jisu has concentrated training in working with adults who have experienced their first episode of psychosis, and supporting families of loved ones impacted by mental illness. Jisu values an integrated and eclectic approach to therapy, understanding that everyone comes with their own intersecting identities, unique story, as well as personal needs that may best be accommodated through a variety of therapy styles. She primarily engages in cognitive behavioral therapy with the incorporation of exposure therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and trauma informed as well as anti-oppressive approaches to tailor the client’s desired therapy outcomes.
In sessions with Jisu, you can curiously explore the values, beliefs, and personal experiences which have shaped who you are today. Jisu can support you in identifying your strengths, curating self-acceptance and self-compassion as you navigate life’s transitions and challenges. She hopes to foster meaningful conversations that explore the underlying emotions and/or unmet needs of your behaviors and thoughts that may no longer be conducive to your growth. She views therapy as a collaborative space for developing helpful strategies that meet your needs and honor your present self. Her social work background places importance in culturally affirming perspectives and taking a structural approach, holistically taking into consideration one’s biopsychosocial stressors. Her practice is grounded in social justice and alleviating the impact of social structures and societal expectations on mental wellbeing. She has a gentle and relaxed presence and fosters an environment of non-judgement and encouragement. Jisu looks forward to being a part of your mental health journey.
