About Online Counselling
My online counselling sessions are similar to traditional in-person counselling. Sessions can occur anywhere you have internet access, using a smartphone, tablet or computer. I use a secure platform designed for confidential healthcare videoconferencing. As long as you have a quiet and private place during your appointment time, online counselling sessions can be as effective at creating a safe therapeutic space, building rapport with your counsellor and finding solutions for your issues.
My Counselling Approach
Overall, I emphasize self-compassion and self-care. I provide a safe, non-judgmental and inclusive environment. This space allows us to explore your concerns within the context of an authentic and supportive client-counsellor alliance.
I draw from the following evidence-based therapeutic approaches: cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness based therapies, narrative therapy, existential therapy, attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology. I offer several different therapeutic approaches to accommodate a variety of preferences. For example, some people prefer to work with thoughts or feelings, while others prefer to focus on behavioural changes or physical exercises.
Mental health issues may be accompanied by complex historical, relational and situational issues, as well as socioeconomic challenges. Together we will tailor your online counselling sessions to address your unique needs. With your permission, I am open to collaborating over the phone with other members of your support team, such as your family doctor. This communication provides a more holistic treatment approach to better support you, despite any geographical separation.
