Janet Black, Masters in Clinical Psychology, is a British Columbia Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC#2934) who welcomes new clients in Union Bay (Comox Valley), British Columbia. She is also a Certified Counsellor for the Victims of Crime Assistance Program and is a Counselling Service Provider for EAP/EFAP with PPC and Homewood Human Solutions.

It has been her experience that people attend counseling sessions for a variety of reasons: stressful changes at the workplace, conflict with co-workers, frustration with family members, transitions in life that include: elderly parents, teenagers, grief from loss of family members and friends, new family configurations, retirement considerations, moving to a new community, divorce/separation. Often we have unresolved trauma or loss that, resolved, would be freeing and allow us to live our lives more completely.

Her way of working is client-centered in a safe respectful environment where there is a mutual interest in building a supportive experience that benefits the client. Through compassion, professional training, humour and a genuine interest in the interest of the client she engages in a dynamic process of resolving issues that are distressing the client and may be causing: loss of sleep, anxiety and symptoms of depression. These are symptoms that may infiltrate the workplace, family life and interfere with the development of positive relationships.

She has engaged in specialized training in the area of trauma-reduction using EMDR, stress-reduction using Mindfulness Strategies, and has extensive experience in the areas of Family Counselling, Parenting Support, Children with Learning Differences and supporting Families in Transition.
