Jackie has over 10 years of experience working with high-school aged youth and adults with mental health concerns, stress, relationship challenges, parenting difficulties and career changes. Jackie's work is informed primarily by a cognitive behavioral and solution focused approach. Short term goals focus on immediate symptom relief while long term goals examine more enduring patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that keep a person stuck in their current challenges.
Often times clients come with a particular concern or when they wish to make changes in their lives. Some people describe feeling ready to resolve a specific challenge, make a decision, or understand themselves and their situation better. It often takes time and a lot of hard work to reach your individual counselling goals, but if you feel ready to take the time and make a commitment to change, counselling can help you reach your potential.
Common concerns for Jackie's youth clients include mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, trauma, stress, crisis intervention, bullying, social and emotional support, sexual orientation, gender identity, relationships, school refusal, substance use, and school/career planning. Adult clients often see Jackie for similar concerns including mood and anxiety disorders, stress, relationships, parenting, work/life balance, workplace challenges, career planning, and life transitions.
What can you expect?
In an initial meeting, Jackie will start with an intake to determine what changes you would like to see in your life. This initial meeting provides you with the opportunity to assess client/counsellor fit and appropriateness of services offered. In some cases, referrals for other types of support may be required. Following sessions will focus on working collaboratively to meet identified goals using a variety of counselling techniques.
If you're still not sure if you are ready, please call and ask any questions you may have and to see if counselling is a good fit for you.
