First, my gratitude for your curiosity about my work. I have had the privilege of traveling to many different parts of the world and spent a chapter of my life living in Australia. My time there allowed me to grow and flourish as a person and develop my deep gratitude for my connection to others and the world around me. My experiences abroad and at home along with my lived experience with chronic pain, trauma, and depression, have allowed me to truly understand and hold empathy for others' experiences with such challenges. These experiences have given me the opportunity to witness both the highs and lows of the human experience and to further garner the skills I believe make me an effective counsellor. Thus far, my journey has shown me that as humans we have a deep and inherent capacity to heal, love, and thrive, and sometimes our histories and life circumstances can challenge this capacity.
I have had the honour of working with a wide range of individuals who seek to navigate through challenges such as childhood trauma, sexual abuse/violence, depression, intimacy issues, anxiety, and chronic pain. I have witnessed the often beautiful and life-shifting, but complex journey of navigating such issues and the courage it takes to do so. I aim to create a space where this vulnerability is met with compassion, safety, support, and guidance when needed.I recognize that the exploration of your past, your feelings and your physical sensations can sometimes be intense and uncomfortable, and I truly believe that through this work, you come out on the other side having a deeper and more secure connection to yourself, others, and the world around you.
The foundation for all of my work is from a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and anti-oppressive lens. My approach is predominantly grounded in 'feeling' and 'being' practices, these include somatic and sensorimotor theories where we explore the experiences of the body and inner parts. I also make use of 'thinking' and 'doing' practices that include approaches such as Internal Family Systems theory, polyvagal theory, CBT, and narrative therapy. We will always collaborate together to find which approach is right for you and we will always go at the pace that feels good for you.
It is my priority as your counsellor to create a space where we can show up as our authentic selves; where you feel heard, seen, and accepted for where you are at on your healing journey. I invite you to book a free consultation to see if we would be a good fit. You can head to https://www.lightrliving.com/bookings.
