Addiction is often stigmatized and kept secret despite the painful effects it has on sufferers and their families. If you or someone you care for is struggling any form of addiction be it substance or behavioural, then counselling with Harj may be for you.
I support persons who:
-are looking to address substance use, gambling, sex addiction, internet usage or gaming
-are hoping to stop or reduce the harm of their addictive behaviour
-looking to repair and strengthen relationships (partner or family) damaged by addictions
-want to manage mental health symptoms related to addiction like anxiety, panic, depression and emotional instability
-are looking to increase their experience of joy and meaning, free from addictions.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have eight years of experience working in the substance use field and have training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), clinical hypnosis, and mindfulness-based therapies. My aim is to support clients in gaining insight into the underlying causes of their addiction and mental health struggles as well as furnishing them with practical tools to reduce distress and increase their sense of well being and meaning in their lives and relationships.
In my work I take a holistic view of persons and consider their personal stories, perspectives, beliefs and the environments they live in. My goal is to help you create a personal plan for recovery. I take pride in my ability to blend lived experience with my clinical training and I am strongly influenced by trauma informed and existential approaches.
I can see you individually or with your partner or family member in my Burnaby location or virtually via Zoom Pro
If you or your family member have been struggling with addiction, you don't need to do it alone, please reach out. I would love to help you heal, grow and embark on a path of recovery!
