Erin Perkes is an associate of Thrive Collective: Counselling and Wellness. Previous to her role with Thrive, she was a founding partner of Platinum Counselling Group, and an associate with the Adlerian Counselling and Consulting Group in Ottawa. She brings with her a strong background of over 15 years of working with youth, individuals and families.
Erin completed her MA in Counselling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Vancouver, BC, and is registered with the BCACC as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). She is also a member of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP) and the Adlerian Psychology Association of BC (APABC). She is certified in the FRIENDS For Life child and youth anxiety treatment method, is a certified Adlerian Parent Educator and STEP parenting group facilitator, and has received training in parent-teen mediation. In addition, Erin has completed training in Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) as well as EMDR, and works with clients on single incident, as well as chronic, trauma. In relation, she is registered with the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) to provide services to victims of crime, and accepts ICBC related clients. Erin also completed Level I and II training by the BCPFFA to provide informed therapy to fire fighters and other first responders.
She has extensive experience working with well-established counselling and family services agencies, in addition to her 10 years of private practice work. Reflecting her passion for healthy individual and family development, Erin also offers various psychoeducational parenting support, workshops and courses on an on-going basis. Committed to education and counsellor development, Erin has also served as Adjunct Faculty at Adler University's Master's of Counselling Psychology program, and offers clinical supervision and consultation to other therapists.
Erin works with clients toward their own insight, growth and development in areas such as anxiety, depression, grief & loss, life transitions, self-esteem, family conflict, trauma, life purpose and balance. In working with youth, adult, couples and family clients, Erin embraces the Adlerian concepts of valuing uniqueness of individuals, encouragement, and early life experiences, while believing what Alfred Adler said, Everything can also be different. Believing in people and families ability to make what they feel are positive changes for their lives, she uses an Adlerian approach as her psychotherapeutic foundation, which offers a holistic consideration of life in valuing the work, social, intimacy, self and spiritual aspects of our being human. She also includes various other therapeutic modalities, based on individual client needs.
