Whether you are a student, just graduated, making a career change (or thinking of doing so); whether you are somewhere in between life stages/transitions or feeling stuck within one; whether you are deeply struggling or seeking growth and self-improvement, counselling can help you find the support and solutions you are hoping for.
I support students, individuals and couples with 1) stress management and life-balance; 2) relationships with peers/family/partners; 3) ability to overcome anxiety, depression and other mood-related issues; 4) coping skills during life transitions & high-stress situations, such as post-trauma, grief, loss of a relationship, illness, and job/career changes. If you are struggling to deal with complex feelings and situations alone, allow me to join you with deep compassion, warmth, and non-judgement; as well as clinical training and professional experience assisting in mental health for young adults and adults.
Previously, I was the designated counsellor and advisor for International Students at Canadian universities (UBC Okanagan, Kwantlen, SFU); I supported clients of diverse backgrounds with cultural sensitivity and a strong set of intercultural competencies. Many of my clients have been Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and South Asian; they have stated their appreciation for my ability to relate to and understand some of their cultural values and backgrounds.
Past and present, my clients report that counselling has helped them: more effectively manage their stress, anxiety, and pressures; develop stronger happier relationships and sense of belonging with their family & friends; achieve greater self-esteem; feel more calm, present and engaged in their every day; and overall, have a clearer sense of direction in their life. It would be my honour to help you achieve these goals and similar visions for your life, too.
I provide both brief, short-term therapy and longer term therapy depending on your needs. My special interest is in couples counselling as well as helping individuals manage academic issues, relationship conflicts, cultural adjustment and familial expectations and pressures. I have also worked closely with individuals to improve symptoms of: disordered eating; post-traumatic stress and sexual-assault related trauma as well.
