Previously, I was the designated counsellor and advisor for International Students at Canadian universities (UBC Okanagan, Kwantlen, SFU); I support clients of diverse backgrounds with cultural sensitivity and a strong set of intercultural competencies. Many of my clients have been Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and South Asian; they have stated their appreciation for my ability to relate to and understand some of their cultural values and backgrounds.
With all my clients--whether you're a student, recently graduated, employed, making a career change, or somewhere in between any of these life stages and transitions-- I commit to doing my best work so you can gain strength to overcome your most challenging struggles and your darkest emotions. It is not uncommon that during experiences of high stress; life changes; family and relationship conflicts; grief and loss; and challenging circumstances, you start to feel overwhelmed with negative thoughts and feelings about yourself and your future. Maybe you've already started to feel burnt out and exhausted. Maybe you've already started to doubt yourself and your decisions. On top of it all, you feel so alone. Sometimes, these darker thoughts and feelings can manifest as crippling anxiety and depression, disordered eating, suicidal ideas, and a host of self-sabotaging behaviours. These are struggles you don't need to face on your own.
My clients report that counselling has helped them: more effectively manage their stress, anxiety, and pressures; develop stronger happier relationships and sense of belonging with their family & friends; achieve greater self-esteem; feel more calm, present and engaged in their every day; and overall, have a clearer sense of direction in their life. I can help you achieve these goals.
I provide both brief, short-term therapy and longer term therapy depending on your needs. I have a special interest helping individuals manage academic issues, relationship conflicts, cultural adjustment and familial expectations and pressures. I have also worked closely with individuals to improve symptoms of: disordered eating; post-traumatic stress and sexual-assault related trauma as well.
