My name is Deborah and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor. I hold a MA in Counselling Psychology from Adler University, and a BA in Psychology from the University of Manitoba. I work with individuals (youth and adult), all genders, and sexual orientations, with the goal of creating a safe, non-judgemental space in which you can explore yourself and your situation - to connect with your wise self. I welcome you and congratulate you for taking this courageous first step towards living your most authentic life.
You may be using substances or engaging in addictive behaviors in order to deal with your anxiety, depression, trauma or other mental health concerns. You may be engaging in these behaviors to cope with life events and transitions. These strategies will work in the short-term until they don't. Whether or not you are doing the above, you may find yourself "white-knuckling" through your day.
Change is possible. There are numerous healthy coping strategies that can be discovered through the counselling process. These coping strategies will be unique to you and we will work together to find what works for you and your life moving forward.
Some of the tools and techniques that I have used with clients include, but aren't limited to: mindfulness; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); motivational interviewing; tapping (Energy Freedom Technique) and hypnosis. Some of the issues I work with include anxiety and depression, trauma, PTSD. I will work with you to build your communication skills, which includes boundary setting and assertiveness in addition to working with those who want to improve their self-esteem.
I have extensive experience working with addiction issues - having worked with at-risk youth, adults and families. I provide counselling for those struggling with addiction and/or compulsive behaviors, as well as those trying to support them. I use an iceberg metaphor - where compulsive or addictive behavior is what everyone sees but we don't necessarily see all the underlying factors that may be contributing to this behavior.
Client fee individuals:$140 per 50-minute session.
