Practice information:
Most of us want to make changes and improvements in our life, yet we tend to rely on the same old approaches (or habits) despite our best intentions. My approach to counselling is to support people to experiment with new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving at a pace that is right for them. I believe that effective counselling needs to be enjoyable, creative and allow us to laugh at ourselves while engaged in a process of discovering the tools needed to bring about the changes we want.
I received a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1984, hold the credential of Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) with the Provincial College of Social Work and am a member of the BC Association of Social Workers. I have 36 years’ experience of employment as a therapist working in a variety of settings including mental health, social services, corrections and not- for -profit societies and clinical supervisor of a large geographic region while also maintaining my home based private practice. My clinical expertise includes the treatment of depression and anxiety and in working with couples with relational conflict and challenges with problem solving. I am increasingly treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Substance Use disorders, aiding people going through a grieving process as well as spiritual counselling and coaching. I have taught family therapy at the College level and have held positions within the provincial government as Team Leader/Clinic Director for a number of Child and Youth Mental Health Offices and Executive Director of a detox centre treating people with addictions. I currently provide clinical supervision to therapists and counsellors within BC.
