I have five years of post-graduate training in Couple and Family Therapy and PhD studies in Family Systems from UVic, a Masters from UofT, and a BA in Psychology from UBC. I use a Bowen Family Systems approach in my work with clients, with some cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-based approaches.
I've always been interested in the systems in which we live, work, and play. I worked for ten years in public health before shifting to counselling, and I've now been in private practice for three years. I have worked with people from all walks of life, mostly focusing on developing a counselling apporach for working with males. I have found that men often struggle with the fear of judgment. My goal is to offer my clients a space where they can talk openly and candidly about what it's really like for them. Opening up in itself can often be truly transformative and creates a realm of new possibilities. I am working with the team at Manifest Wellness to destigmatize counselling support for men, and break down the shame so often associated with reaching out for help.
I use a coaching style to work with my clients and help them reach their goals. Together, we look at the problem, gather the data through a little self research, and then examine that data through a systems lens. We do regular check-ins and ensure they are seeing measurable, noticeable and enduring results.
