HELLO AND WELCOME TO MY COUNSELLING PRACTICE.
I offer friendly and professional counselling to support you through difficult times, and help you move to a place of acceptance, strength, and peace.
Overall wellness involves a feeling of complete and general well-being. It is really a balance of emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental health.
Emotional health is an important part of overall health. Those who are emotionally healthy are in control of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. They are better able to cope with life’s challenges by keeping problems in perspective and are able to bounce back from setbacks.
Mental health is also part of overall health, and can be seen as a state of well-being where each of us realizes our own potential, and can cope well with the normal stresses of life.
If you feel that you could improve your emotional or mental health, working with a therapist can help. We would use our time together to facilitate self-knowledge, emotional acceptance and growth, understanding the legacy of trauma, discovering why anxiety and depression threaten to take over, and why you might feel isolated and alone.
The overall aim of counselling is to provide you, the client, an opportunity to work towards living a more satisfying life. Counselling relationships (client and therapist) vary according to your needs, but may be concerned with developmental issues and childhood experiences (especially trauma), addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with a crisis or loss, developing personal insights and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others.
My role as a therapist is to facilitate our work together in ways that respect your values, personal resources, and capacity and readiness for desired change. I am committed to providing counselling in a supportive, safe, discreet, confidential, and non-judgmental space. I welcome clients regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
I offer a free half-hour phone call to all potential clients to discuss why they are thinking about therapy, give them an opportunity to see if we might be a good fit, and for me to assess whether I have the skills and training to be able to help you.
My practice is informed by a variety of therapeutic approaches including brief therapy, boundary work, trauma informed, grief counselling, couples and relationship counselling, family systems therapy, sensorimotor psychotherapy, somatic attachment therapy, solution focused therapy, strength based, feminist, and narrative.
If you would like to talk, please do not hesitate to reach out either by telephone
( 778-533-9051 ) or e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org).
I look forward to hearing from you.
Having struggles in your relationships?
Finding that you are not feeling heard or understood?
Do your discussions degrade into shouting matches and standoffs?
Communication is a skill. Many of us were not taught how to communicate in a respectful and positive manner. We can actually acquire the skills that will allow us to communicate and connect with the ones we love.
I am a trained and certified Imago Relationship Therapist. I can teach you the Imago Dialogue process, and help you move from blame and reactivity to understanding and empathy. With this process, you can transform conflicts into opportunities for healing and growth, and connect more deeply and lovingly with your intimate partner.
You will learn how to reduce reactivity so that you can truly be present and hear what your partner is trying to share with you. When we are reactive or triggered, we move into the “reptilian” or “old” part” of the brain, which is mainly concerned with flight, fight, freeze etc. When we are flooded or in reactivity mode, the thinking part of our brain goes “offline” which makes it impossible to stay present and carry on a meaningful conversation.
Imago teaches us to eliminate the triggering that takes us offline. It teaches couples how to stay present, truly listen with curiosity to what our partners are trying to share with us, and listen without judgement.
