Welcome and thank you for visiting my page.
It takes great courage to reach out for support. You may be seeking support around a new issue or one you’ve carried for some time. Counsellng is meaningful dialogue that can help you discover new paths to freedom and self-acceptance.
Alisen Santa Ana
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I provide individual and couples counselling to adults of all ages. I have 10 years of clinical training and experience providing effective and compassionate counselling to people who have both short-term and long-term needs. Safety and collaboration are paramount to my therapeutic work.
I work with and help clients who bring a variety of challenges and focuses to therapy including trauma (PTSD), substance addiction, anxiety, depression, grief, a sense of low self-worth, stress-management, gender diversity exploration (transition and post-transition concerns) as well as clients struggling with finding their voice and being themselves. I also have specific training and over five years experience working with and helping clients who are suicidal, concerned about someone who is suicidal and/or clients devastated by the suicide of a loved one. I work alongside clients respecting their diversity and unique values and stance in life. I am passionate about helping people find their truest sense of self such that they may live richer and more authentic lives. Through my clinical work, I have witnessed many people move through and out of difficult experiences towards a deeper sense of self-acceptance and a place of having more options and ways of being in life.
I consider our work together sacred. I engage respectfully and collaboratively with you in helping you find new approaches and solutions to your challenges. I work creatively in helping you locate your strengths, even the ones you have forgotten or lay in what feels like another universe away. I support you in finding relief from painful and unhelpful symptoms and in finding new stories or a new narrative that is more helpful and honouring of you and your experiences.
I draw from an integrated counselling approach that is primarily aligned with Narrative, Existential, Feminist and trauma informed therapies, but I work collaboratively to find the best approaches and interventions that allow for the change you are seeking, I also sometimes draw from other approaches when suitable (e.g. Brief Therapy, Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Visualization and Mindfulness Therapy).
Together, we define the goals, pacing and development of therapy.
